Hi. I’m Sarah Spangler (birth name – Spania Caldararu). I’m 24 years old and I was adopted when I was 2 ½ years old from Bucharest, Romania Galati, Romania. I currently live in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. I work as a bank teller while simultaneously studying at Liberty University School of Aeronautics in the hope of becoming a pilot for the airlines someday.
When I began this journey of searching for biological family in July 2021, my results from AncestryDNA came back with multiple matches that were cousins of mine who were also adopted. Through connecting with some of my cousins, I was able to get in touch with great resources on Facebook, one of them being Lynelle Long, founder of InterCountry Adoptee Voices (ICAV). She has been a mentor to me in this search for family as I’m learning about the politics of intercountry adoption.
Finding my Romanian family means a lot to me because I have a daughter who I want to be able to share my heredity information with one day when she’s old enough to understand.
You can follow me at my Youtube channel where I share about my journey of exploring what it means to be an intercountry adoptee from Romania.
