Sara is passionate about spreading kindness, empowering and supporting others and was born in Ethiopia.

From the age of 6 to 13 years old, Sara grew up in an orphanage in Ethiopia. During her older years, she led youth groups for the others in the orphanage until she was 13 years old. She then met her adoptive parents who were working in Ethiopia as missionaries. They adopted Sara and lived in Ethiopia for another 6 years before moving to Australia. In that 6 years, Sara use to do home visits with social workers and she volunteered to lead and mentor young girls weekly for 4 years.

Today Sara is based on the Gold Coast in Queensland (QLD) and when she first arrived, she was actively involved in her church as a youth leader. She also taught Amharic to other adoptees and she volunteers every Tuesday with the Melty cultural family organisation (MFO) to help primary and secondary students in their homework, school assignments, resume writing and seeking employment.

Each year Sara volunteers with Redfrogs during schoolies week to help safe guard the students who are celebrating the completion of high school.

Last year, Sara graduated with a Bachelor of Human Services majoring in Human Behaviour. She is currently studying a post graduate degree in leadership and coaching which will be completed at the end of 2022.

It is her dream one day to become a counsellor and give support to fellow adoptees in a professional capacity. She has appreciated the support she’s received herself through counselling as it has helped her feel understood and given her a way to process her adoption story. Her goal is to give support in similar ways.

Together with Fikrte Bushell, Sara and Fikrte are establishing regular social catchups for intercountry adoptees in QLD, Brisbane to meet face to face and build a sense of community.
