WA Representative
Mallika Macleod is an intercountry adoptee, born in Sri Lanka and adopted to Perth in Western Australia. Mallika is the eldest of four intercountry adoptees. She has lived experience of disability following an accident in her childhood, and has been a wheelchair user for over 30 years.
She has worked in the human and community services sectors for the past 20 years, with significant governance experienced from appointments to multiple Boards at community, state and national levels. With an extensive background working in individual and systemic advocacy in the arts, disability, mental health and health, Mallika brings both enthusiasm and skills to ICAV that she hopes will support the adoptee community to raise the profile of our concerns for current and future intercountry adoptees, both in Australia and beyond.
Mallika’s involvement in ICAV is in honour of her beautiful brother, Kim, a young man who took his life in October 2020.
Mallika is currently the Chair of the Health Consumers’ Council (WA), and a Director at DADAA, a leading arts organisation with the vision “Arts for Social Change.”
In the disability activist community, there is a saying “nothing about us, without us,” Mallika wants to see the same intent extended to all conversations about intercountry adoptions.
