QLD Representative
Fikrte was adopted to Australia from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the age of 7 in 1998, alongside her four biological siblings. Her adoptive family had already adopted two children, one from the Philippines and one from Thailand.
Fikrte is based in Brisbane, QLD. She is an ex registered nurse, her passion for the arts led her to resign from nursing and pursue acting full time.
Fikrte co-runs the ICAV QLD group and was inspired to create it after she had dinner with Lynelle and other adoptees. At that meeting she felt heard, liberated and validated for the feelings/shame she was holding within her. She felt it would be a huge benefit to hold a space for all QLD intercountry adoptees to come together on a regular basis to connect, share and discuss relevant topics. Fikrte is excited to continue this journey.
In the near future, Fikrte hopes to become a counsellor for young adoptees and continues to be an advocate for ICAV.
