Brooke Arcia

New South Wales (NSW) ICAV Representative


Brooke is a Sri Lankan adoptee raised in NSW. Professionally she is a lawyer and has predominantly worked in-house for the Australian government working across three government agencies in areas of social security, health and taxation. In the Government and private sectors, Brooke has advised on new Government initiatives and legislation, contributed to evidence-based policy formation, program development and people resource strategies through legal advice, business and data analysis and psychometrics, managed organisation-wide communication projects and identified compliance risks.

Brooke is the Australian representative of Lankan Affairs, the Global Association of Sri Lankan Adoptees, as endorsed by the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Brooke shares her experience as an intercountry adoptee and writes about the issues that impact upon intercountry adoptees in their life journey both on her own blog and via her contributions to other writing projects and papers. She is currently working on a language project to help Sri Lankan adoptees learn to write Sinhala script so that they can better connect with their birth culture. Brooke has reunited with her Sri Lankan family and has close relationships with both her Sri Lankan and Australian families.

Brooke has a strong interest in community and social justice and has consistently provided pro bono services to, and volunteered with, various legal centres, community organisations and social causes; particularly in areas that relate to children, multiculturalism and socio-economic disadvantage.
