Diego Vitelli

ICAV USA Representative

Diego is an intercountry adoptee from Colombia, South America who knows very little about his early days prior to being adopted at approximately 5 years of age, by an Irish / Italian family residing outside Boston, USA.

He is a passionate adoptee-advocate who believes in finding opportunities for adoptee voices to be heard. Diego volunteers as a mentor to several adoptees in addition to being a youth mentor at Amara, a private adoption agency in Seattle that offers a post adoption monthly mentoring program. He also administrators a private Facebook group with a membership of over 1700 Colombian intercountry adoptees around the world.

Diego works weekly to mentor young adoptees at a local elementary school for Snoqualmie Valley Community Network and he has recently created the Adoptees Connect – Seattle group.

Diego is currently enrolled at Antioch University in Seattle pursuing a Masters in Counselling to become an adoption-competent therapist, hoping in the future to professionally support fellow adoptees. He appreciates the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about adoption to help others become more aware of the complexities involved, with special interest in adoptee identity in transracial and intercountry adoption contexts.
